Eminem’s title of his latest album takes on a whole new meaning after his Grammy Awards performance revealed that the Detroit rapper is serious about kicking his addictions.
Shown wearing the Alcoholics Anonymous sobriety pendant and necklace, Eminem’s long battle with prescription drug addiction and alcoholism appears to be on the mend. Eminem revealed last year that his addiction to painkillers and other prescribed drugs robbed him of his formidable rhyming skills and that he had to reinvent his approach to music.
“I had to learn to write and rap again, and I had to do it sober and 100 percent clean,” Em said in regards to his fifth studio album Recovery. “That didn’t feel good at first … I mean it in the literal sense. I actually had to learn how to say my lyrics again; how to phrase them, make them flow, how to use force so they sounded like I meant them.”
The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the story, reported that the Alcoholic Anonymous Sobriety and Circle pendant represents a three part answer (unity, recovery, service) to the three part disease of alcoholism and addiction (physical, mental, spiritual). The circle surrounding the triangle represents a sense of wholeness as a person enrolled in the AA program battles their disease.
Eminem’s Recovery album was the top selling album of 2010 and with the star nabbing two Grammys this past Sunday, sales of the emotionally charged and epic album are sure to increase. The aptly titled album won a Grammy award in the Album of The Year category.
