The New York Police Department said it is investigating the account of a man who said that he was involved in a 1994 shooting and robbery of the rapper Tupac Shakur.
Reports the NY Times:
On Wednesday, one day before what would have been Mr. Shakur’s 40th birthday, the Web site allhiphop.com published an interview with a man named Dexter Isaac who said that he took part in an attack that occurred on Nov. 7, 1994, at the Quad Recording Studios in Manhattan. Mr. Shakur was wounded in that incident and was robbed of jewelry he was wearing; he was killed in a 1996 shooting in Las Vegas.
Mr. Isaac apologized to Mr. Shakur’s family and said he still had a chain he had stolen from him during the attack. The allhiphop.com report described Mr. Isaac as a convicted felon who is “currently serving life in prison for murder, robbery and other offenses,” but did not identify the prison. The A.P. said a prisoner by that name is serving a life sentence at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
Paul Browne, an N.Y.P.D. spokesman, told The A.P. that the police would seek an interview with Mr. Isaac if they determined the report was legitimate.
