I guess MMG has the gangsta/street lane locked up for now. I dont believe Gunplay would get a deal without his affiliation with Ross. On the Breakfast Club, Meek said himself there’s a wide open line for street music. I think the lane’s wide open but its a narrow lane. There are dozens of underground artists putting out “street” music, but nobody wants to buy their records. Making them commercially unviable. Gunplay wont move units and he wont build up a sizable enough base to make himself a lucrative concert draw. But these record execs are pretty “smart” with their money; they usually bet on sure things (unless its LA Reid). They give artists as much push as they deserve commercially. Mark my words, Gunplay will need to do EVERYTHING himself and with the team he brings to the table. He’ll get ZERO commercial support from Def Jam that doesnt go through Ross/MMG.
