Terrell Owens Confirms Cut From Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks have clipped Terrell Owens’ wings. The 38-year-old wide receiver, who was attempting an NFL comeback with the Seattle Seahawks, is no longer with the club.

Reports NY Daily News:

“I’m no longer a Seahawk. I THANK the organization 4 the opportunity, I’m truly blessed beyond belief. My FAITH is intact & will NOT waiver,” he wrote.

The Seahawks confirmed Sunday that Owens was done, joining Alex Barron and Deuce Lutui as players who were cut from the roster on Sunday.

Owens played in two preseason games for Seattle but made only two catches and failed to put enough distance between himself and Braylon Edwards in the competition for one of the team’s open wide receiver slots.

Seattle signed Owens to a one-year deal earlier this month following a surprising workout that had coaches and Seahawks staff raving about how good he looked following an 18-month layoff. Owens last played with the Bengals in 2010 and couldn’t find work with an NFL team last season after udergoing knee surgery.

He turned to the Indoor Football League, where he joined the team as a player/owner but that partnership — like many of his NFL relationships — ended badly with the team cutting him for what they felt was a breach of contract.

After being given a chance for a fresh start in Seattle, Owens struggled to rediscover his game-breaking form. In his first preseason game he dropped a would-be 46-yard touchdown against Denver on a perfect throw from Matt Flynn and failed to make a catch in any of his five targets against the Broncos. He also had a glaring drop against Kansas City Friday night, the same night he showed flashes of his old self with a 40-yard over-the-shoulder grab — one of only two preseason catches for the five-time All Pro.
