ESPN Reporter Says NFL Rookie Baller RG3 Is Not “Black Enough” Because Of White Fiance (Video)

An episode of ESPN’s First Take got racially awkward after reporter Rob Parker called out RGIII for having a white fiancé.

ESPN Reporter Says NFL Rookie Baller RG3 Is Not “Black Enough” Because Of White Fiance (Video)

Reports HipHopWired:

Parker pulled Washington Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III’s race card all because of his significant other’s skin color. “Is he a brother, or is he a cornball brother?” Parker asked.
“I keep hearing these things. We all known he has a white fiancée. There was all this talk about he’s a Republican.”

Stephen A. Smith—who has drawn criticism for his own comments—stepped in to try and extinguish the madness. “I’m uncomfortable with where we just went,” he said. “RGIII, the ethnicity or the color of his fiancée is none of our business, it’s irrelevant, he can live his life in whatever way he chooses. The braids that he has in his hair, that’s his business, that’s his life, he can live his life.”

Skip Bayless also jumped in, asking Parker to explain his silly theory. “ He’s not real,” Parker continued. “OK, he’s Black, he kind of does the thing, but he’s not really down with the cause. He’s not one of us. He’s kind of Black but he’s not really, like, the guy you want to hang out with because he’s off to something else.”

“I’m just trying to dig deeper into why he has an issue,” he added. “Because we did find out with Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods was like, I’ve got Black skin but don’t call me Black.”

ESPN issued a statement regarding Parker’s comments: “The comments were inappropriate and we are evaluating our next steps.”

This isn’t the first time that Griffin has been the focus of racial banter on First Take. Over the summer, Bayless hypothesized that the 22-year-old lacked fan support because he’s Black.

And now…the video.

This is EbenGregory.com…telling you in this country American means white. Everybody else has to hyphenate. I’m just saying.

let me ask the black women something. how can you get upset with a brother when black women and white men have been having secret affairs behind closed every since we got off the boat.

  2. avatar Mec-One says:

rob parker is a cornball who is known for his unprofessional and inappropriate racial comments that he tries to defend as comedy journalism.

What damn year are we living in? Racism is the most sorry excuse for ignorance and lack of knowledge. Martin Luther King Jr fought to get blacks equal rights and to not be segregated and now black folks want to be segregated? Utterly ridiculous.

What year are we in?! RG3 can and should be with whoever he wants.

      I agree with Parker

hmmmm, and I wonder why …….

        • avatar alesha says:

Because black men make it and get so far removed from the women that helped them get there..he hates his skin so he finds white mate..its perpetual hate..not love

          • avatar Mec-One says:

The only woman that helped him get to where he is today is his momma. Would you feel the same if he didn’t “make it”

          • avatar alesha says:

Yes i would feel the same way impoverished black men get with white women the same reason wealthy/successful black men do..bcuz of insecurity

          • avatar Frenzy says:

If you weren’t so insecure yourself, Alesha, you wouldn’t feel that way. It is you who have the self-hate.

Why in your eyes must people only bond with those of the same skin color? Your opinion is foolish and archaic.

Ppl try to put Blackness in a box. Exhibit any trait or behave in any way someone looking at the box doesn’t think should be in there and you’re labeled a ‘cornball’. There are all sorts of Black folks, the person (of any race) trying to put someone else in the box just hasn’t met enough of them.

Uh….I just checked Wikipedia…..didn’t say anything about Rob Parker being the founder/ chief of the Black Panther Party. N-words is like crabs in a bucket, I swear.
