ostco is tarnishing the Tiffany name, the luxury jewelry chain complained in a new lawsuit Thursday.
The Fifth Avenue bauble palace claims the warehouse club chain is selling counterfeit diamond engagement rings under the Tiffany brand.
“We now know that there are at least hundreds if not thousands of Costco members who think they bought a Tiffany engagement ring at Costco, which they didn’t,” said Tiffany lawyer Jeffrey Mitchell.
He said in November a customer notified the jeweler that a Costco store in Huntington Beach, Calif., was promoting “Tiffany” diamond engagement rings on in-store signs.
The Manhattan Federal Court lawsuit accuses Costco of trademark infringement.
Costco spokesman Jeffrey Elliott declined comment.
