The Atlanta-based rapper was headed to a college homecoming event in February when state troopers stopped the van he was traveling in. Police said they searched the van after smelling burnt marijuana and found a marijuana grinder and marijuana inside a backpack.

2 Chainz was cited for having drug paraphernalia and marijuana after he claimed the bag. The rapper’s security guard testified that in a rush to leave the group’s Baltimore hotel room, he packed the grinder, but he said he didn’t know who owned it.

On Valentines Day, 2 Chainz (real name Tauheed Epps) was arrested while enroute to a show at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). While the details are still fuzzy, here’s what we know thus far.

According to 2 Chainz, he and his camp were headed to the university, when they were somehow pulled over and it was discovered that someone (2 Chainz) had a weed grinder. After the incident, 2 Chainz tweeted what happened, writing:

UMES we on the way , dam police f*ckn wit a n*gga , we fina turnUP…Locked me up and then Wanted pictures smh..We to jail for a grinder??? REALLY??? Show must go on much love UMES…I work hard and pray even harder , we gone always b good yall….Not to mention my security said it was his and they said , he don’t smoke ,, how da fuk u know? Haha wut a valentines day!!!

In any event, this isn’t the Atlanta rappers first time having a run-in with police. Last year, he was arrested for having brass knuckles. He recounted the story to MTV, saying:

”They tried to assassinate my character, they tried to assassinate my swag. It was just a negative dilemma earlier where someone misconstrued a piece of jewelry for a weapon and stuff. … I do exclusive pieces. My pieces are actual conversation pieces, like, literally. Rapper 2 Chainz has landed a major publishing deal with Reservoir Media, as he prepares to release his major label debut album Based on a T.R.U. Story.

The new publishing deal between 2 Chainz and Reservoir Media will give the publishing company the rights to the rapper’s 200-plus song catalog, including his major-label debut.

“The key to my success has been building a stellar team of hand-selected people with the skill and know-how to match my vision,” 2 Chainz told AllHipHop.com in a statement today. “I look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Reservoir’s exceptional group of professionals,” the rapper added. “Artists depend on strong publishing representation and today, I believe I have secured that.”

The deal comes as 2 Chainz holds the Top 2 slots on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The rapper is featured on Kanye West’s platinum-selling single “Mercy,” alongside Big Sean and Pusha T, which was been #1 for the past five weeks. Meanwhile, 2 Chainz’ track “No Lie” featuring Drake is #2. Based on a T.R.U. Story is set to be released on August 14th via Def Jam Recordings.

When G.O.O.D Music’s Pusha T and YMCMB leader Lil Wayne reignited their beef, 2 Chainz refused to take sides. He recently explained why he didn’t allow the duel to break his ties to artists from either camp.

“I have nothing to do with what Pusha is doing every day or what Wayne is doing every day,” he told CBS Local exclusively. “These are just peers of mine. I wouldn’t want nothing to happen to neither one of them. But I don’t referee or mediate. I mind my business. That’s why I’m here right now. When you come from the streets you learn to mind your own business.”

While 2 Chainz said he won’t play the role of peacemaker, he holds a position as a respected neutral voice. He is a part of Kanye’s G.O.O.D Music crew, which is also home to Pusha T. But he has also worked with Lil’ Wayne for “Duffle Bag Boys,” as a member of Playaz Circle. To further complicate matters, he dropped a single “No Lie” with Drake, who was also embroiled in the beef with Pusha.

“I’ve known drake for four or five years,” 2Chainz said. “The fact that people didn’t know we had a relationship was also cool. I added that element of surprise back to hip-hop with collaboration. Also, with the songs looking good on paper, I think they sound good as well.”

The ring says “DOPE” in big letters — and sources tell TMZ, 2 Chainz rocked it no problem at an Atlanta club called the Velvet Room on Sunday.

According to sources close to the rapper, Chainz then flew to NYC without incident — with the ring in his luggage — but when he tried to leave the city today, TSA at LaGuardia Airport mistook the jewelry for a dangerous weapon.

TMZ broke the story … 2 Chainz was arrested at the airport for possession of a criminal weapon this afternoon when officials found the 4-finger instrument in his bag.

2 Chainz is still in custody. The Port Authority PD had no comment.

Last night, Kanye West allegedly revealed that 2 Chainz was signed to G.O.O.D. Music thanks to a stray tweet that read, “2 Chainz is charging 100k for a verse now cause he’s G.O.O.D.!!!!!!” But while speaking to Hot 97.5′s Bootleg Kev, the Atlanta rapper neither confirmed nor denied being an official member of the G.O.O.D Music family.

At first, the “No Lie” rapper suggested that the context of the tweet was being taken wrong. “I don’t think it is,” 2 Chainz said of Yeezy’s memo being any sort of “official announcement.” “Nah, he’s just saying I’m good. Like, ‘I’m ill.’” He then added, “We was talking and I was like I think I was jeopardizing my brand sometimes by doing the homeboy special. So I think he just felt like we should just put that out there, that we ain’t doing no more of that. You too good, for that.”

With his debut solo album, Based On A T.R.U. Story, out August 14th, the prolific rapper plans on slowing down on the guest features. He said, “I would have done almost anything a couple months ago, and it was all about reaching out because, I still will, I’m still grounded. But it makes sense for me to slow down a little bit being that I got an album coming out August the 14th.”
