The Cyber Information Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) allows internet service providers and sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Google to share its users private information with federal security agencies and ‘private sector entities’ (SEC3, a1), without legal reprisal.

Supporters claim the bill is intended to allow security and private agencies tackle cyber threats. Opponents of the bill argue it creates a legal framework for the websites we love to become government spies for private interests. Sadly, the opponents of the bill are right.

Opposition of the Bill is critical for those who care about the privacy of their personal information.

The Electronic Foundation’s Mark Jaycox set out the most concerning provisions of the bill (emphasis added) in an open discussion on reddit:

“Companies have new rights to monitor user actions and share data – including potentially sensitive user data – with the government without a warrant.

CISPA overrides existing privacy law, and grants broad immunities to participating companies.

Information provided to the federal government under CISPA would be exempt from the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and other state laws that could otherwise require disclosure (unless some law other than CISPA already requires its provision to the government).

CISPA’s authors argue that the bill contains limitations on how the federal government can use and disclose information by permitting lawsuits against the government. But if a company sends information about a user that is not cyberthreat information, the government agency does not notify the user, only the company”

Anyone with any doubts about the true intention of CISPA should look at the progress of amendments to the Bill that intended to safeguard privacy. A series of amendments with just this purpose went before the House of Representatives last week. These included:

- An amendment to ban employers from asking for the social media passwords of their staff as a condition of employment.

- An amendment to prevent companies selling personal information on for marketing purposes

- An amendment to refuse firearms sales records, library records and tax returns gained from private companies being used by the federal government.

All of these amendments were rejected last week, while the bill itself was approved by the House of Representatives.

This means that in future, a person’s private social media activity and behaviour could impact their employability; the information shared by web users in private chat, messages and emails could be hived off and sold to marketing firms; the private tax and library habits of a person can be passed from corporation to state and back again.

The American Civil Liberties Union responded to the passing of the Bill with the following statement:

“CISPA is an extreme proposal that allows companies that hold our very sensitive information to share it with any company or government entity they choose, even directly with military agencies like the NSA, without first stripping out personally identifiable information.

We will work with Congress to make sure that the next version of information sharing legislation unequivocally resolves this issue, as well as tightens immunity provisions and protects personal information. Cybersecurity can be done without sacrificing Americans’ privacy online.”

The Bill will now move on to the Senate, which killed the previous iteration of CISPA (SOPA) last year by filibustering. President Obama has also threatened to veto the Bill. But opponents cannot take for granted that this will happen without maintaining and stepping up significant public pressure on web sites, internet service providers and legislators to kill this bill.

Why Should Those Outside the US Care?

It would be a big mistake for those of us outside the borders of the United States to believe that the passing of CISPA is solely an issue for Americans. It is the explicit intention that this Bill provides for managing perceived cyber threats in and outside the US. Therefore this legislation will dictate the privacy of personal information for internet users around the world.

To put this in some perspective, it helps to understand the sheer number of people this bill will impact. Facebook alone has a population of over 1 billion users and just a tenth of these are US based. In numbers, even if the Bill applied to Facebook users alone, it would be equivalent to legislating away the privacy of every citizen of the European and North American continents combined.

This Bill makes it legal for the personal information of internet users across the world, information provided in the belief that it was private, to be shared between state and private agencies – and without our knowledge. Emails, Facebook messages, twitter history, social media passwords, google search histories – all would fall under this bill.

We already know that sites like Twitter, Facebook, PayPal and Google have shown little respect for user privacy and shared this kind of information with state and private entities. The purpose of this legislation is to remove the legal protections from citizens around the world from challenging this illegal practice.

This is a matter we need to get deadly serious about, now. Given the rapid erosion of civil liberties in the real world, the internet has for many become the new home of free speech, assembly and protest. That home is under threat as the police state extends its reach into the online world. We simply cannot allow this to happen.

Just hours after proposing a budget that would replace automatic spending cuts required by law, President Barack Obama on Wednesday set in motion the next $109 billion of the reductions to military and domestic programs for the year starting on October 1.

The White House announced that Obama signed the sequester order, which directs that total discretionary spending for fiscal year 2014 be cut by $91 billion to a total of $967 billion – the lowest level since 2004.

Obama was required by law to sign the order after submitting his budget request to Congress. The appropriations committees in the House of Representatives and the Senate are holding hearings this week over how to divide the dwindling discretionary funding pie for programs ranging from education to weapons development to national parks.

Little has been done to stop the initial $85 billion in cuts that went into effect on March 1 and threatens to prompt temporary layoffs for hundreds of thousands of government workers and defense contractor employees.

If left in place, the sequester would force about another $1.1 trillion in across-the board spending cuts over a decade.

The Republican budget, authored by Representative Paul Ryan and passed by the U.S. House of Representatives last month, keeps the sequester savings in place, and maintains the same $967 billion spending cap now ordered by Obama for fiscal 2014.

But Obama’s budget, like the one passed by Senate Democrats, proposed to replace the sequester, largely through tax increases on the wealthy and spending cuts elsewhere, including health, and a lower inflation gauge for cost of living increases associated with tax brackets, Social Security, and other program.
The budgets represent a starting point for talks in the next few months over deficit reduction as a new debt limit increase deadline looms by August.

North Korea is to restart a mothballed nuclear reactor that has been closed since 2007 in a move that could produce more plutonium for nuclear weapons as well as for domestic electricity production, its KCNA news agency said on Tuesday.

The announcement came as the United States bolstered its forces in Korea and after a speech by leader Kim Jong-un was published in which he praised the country’s nuclear weapons as a “deterrent”.

It was unclear how quickly the plant, whose cooling tower was destroyed, would take to restart, although the move is a big blow to China’s stated aim of restarting de-nuclearization talks on the Korean peninsula. In Beijing, a foreign ministry spokesman expressed regret at the decision.

Earlier, KCNA released a speech by Kim given on Sunday that appeared to dial down the prospects of a direct confrontation with the United States as he stressed that nuclear weapons would ensure the country’s safety as a deterrent.

“Our nuclear strength is a reliable war deterrent and a guarantee to protect our sovereignty,” Kim said. “It is on the basis of a strong nuclear strength that peace and prosperity can exist and so can the happiness of people’s lives.”

As well as restarting the 5MW reactor at Yongbyon, the North’s only known source of plutonium for its nuclear weapons program, KCNA said a uranium enrichment plant would also be put back into operation, a move that could give it a second path to the bomb.

The nuclear plant’s output would be used to solve what KCNA termed an “acute shortage of electricity” and to bolster “the nuclear armed force”.

North Korea conducted its third nuclear test in February but is believed to be some years away from developing nuclear weapons, although it claims to have a deterrent.

After being hit with U.S. sanctions for conducting the test and what it has viewed as “hostile” military drills being staged by Seoul and Washington in the South, Pyongyang has threatened a nuclear strike on the United States, missile strikes on its Pacific bases and war with South Korea.

Washington, which has said it has not seen any evidence of hostile North Korean troop moves, deployed a warship off the Korean coast overnight.

The United States earlier bolstered forces staging joint drills with South Korea with Stealth fighters and has made bomber overflights in a rare show of strength.

Kim’s speech, delivered to the central committee meeting of the ruling Workers Party of Korea, appeared to show a change of tack, but it was some distance from signaling an end to the current crisis.

“The fact that this (speech) was made at the party central committee meeting, which is the highest policy-setting organ, indicates an attempt to highlight economic problems and shift the focus from security to the economy,” said Yang Moo-jin of the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul.

Federal court records shed light on a minor celebrity scandal that broke earlier this week when a popular Web site claimed Deelishis was assaulted by a pack of angry strippers.

Deelishis, real name Chandra London Davis, denied the report. The 35-year-old Farmington Hills resident, known for her ample derriere, posted a message on the social-media site Instagram, saying she tripped on icy stairs while wearing expensive designer shoes.

“I am fine & will be even better in a few days!” she wrote.

Court records offer a darker explanation.

Deelishis was injured jumping out of a second story window Sunday in Farmington Hills after allegedly being assaulted by her estranged husband, Franklin resident Orlando Gordon, according to federal court records.

Gordon was free on bond and awaiting trial in federal court at the time of the incident.

He was indicted in January 2012 along with more than a dozen others and accused of participating in a drug-trafficking operation involving thousands of pounds of blow and kush.

Prosecutors asked a federal judge Thursday to revoke Gordon’s bond due, in part, to the alleged assault.

“Gordon has engaged in criminal conduct that endangers the community — from driving while intoxicated to assault and home invasion,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Cares wrote in a court filing. “These criminal acts show that no set of conditions can reasonably assure the safety of the community and Gordon’s bond should be revoked.”

U.S. District Judge Sean Cox will consider the request March 12.

Court records and a police report portray a violent incident Sunday at the reality-show star’s home on Muer Cove north of 13 Mile, where Deelishis lives with her two daughters.

At 4:20 a.m., Gordon smashed through the front door and struck Deelishis in the face, according to court records.

Deelishis, who had been sleeping in her daughter’s bedroom, ran to her master bedroom, where her friend was asleep.

The friend?

Michael Blackson, a popular stand-up comic known as The African King of Comedy.

He performed Saturday at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit.

Gordon allegedly chased the comic and hit him in the face, according to court records.

Deelishis, meanwhile, locked the bedroom door.

Her estranged husband tried to get into the bedroom, prompting Deelishis to rip open the window screen and jump two stories to the ground, according to police.

She later fled to a neighbor’s home and Gordon left his estranged wife’s house, according to police.

“Davis was in a lot of pain from her right wrist,” according to the police report. “Davis also had blood on her right hand.”

She was taken to Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.

Gordon is scheduled to stand trial April 9.

He is accused of heading a large-scale drug ring with a second man, Wendell Tobias of Detroit.

During a prolonged investigation, federal drug agents have seized more than $1 million cash, classic cars and more than $130,000 in jewelry – including Deelishis’ engagement ring and Rolex watch.

What this means is that they won’t be sending actual police officers to the scene of the crime or the place where the victim reported the crime.

These lesser crimes that will no longer require a police officer to arrive in person include garage burglary, simple assault, or vehicle theft. Also crimes where the victim is deemed “safe, secure and not in need of medical attention” and the offender is “not on the scene and not expected to return immediately,” police officers will not be responding to in person.

These lesser crimes will instead be dealt with the Chicago Police Department’s Alternate Response Section. In 2012 the ARS handled around 74,000 reports of lesser crimes, and this number is expected to double in 2013. The Chicago PD hopes to free up more officers to respond to more serious crimes, and around 44 more officers are expected to be available per day with this new 911 response system.

According to Forbes, the NFL doesn’t pay a dime for any of the artists that perform. NFL spokesperson Greg McCarthy confirmed via email:

“We do not pay. We cover all expenses associated with the performance.”

So what are costs associated with the actual performance? Travel, lodging, setup, fees for backup dancers and musicians—which reportedly comes in around $600,000 or more. So, why would Beyonce or any big name act agree to work for free? Derek Jackson, cofounder of advertising agency Glu, suggests it’s for exposure-duh!

“There is not anything like it. The Super Bowl, for an artist, is considered the medium of all mediums. You can’t beat it from a promotional standpoint. You garner so many eyeballs at one time. This is a Pepsi event, so I’d have to make the argument that this was in her deal. I can’t imagine it being any other way … What better way to make it known to the world that Beyoncé is the face of Pepsi?”

Last summer, Hip-Hop Wired attended a Spotify event in which the music sharing company boasted about the amount of money its paid out to artists. Since 2008 Spotify has worked its way up to become a go-to destination for listeners who want to try out albums before making a purchase.

Unlike illegal sharing entities like Napster, Spotify, and Pandora are hailed for actually paying musicians to stream their work, and a New York Times article looks deeper into how much money is actually exchanging hands.

“This is a relationship with you and the fanbase for the rest of your life,” noted Disturbed member David Draiman, speaking about Spotify during the aforementioned event. “I applaud them [Spotify] for trying to dissolve the piracy bug.”

In 2011, Spotify paid out more than $100 million in artist royalties, and $500 million since its inception. However, the amount of artists’ checks are based on their streaming numbers. In the case of independent musician Zoe Keating, she earned $1,652.74 from Pandora after her music was played more than 1.5 million times. On Spotify, 131,000 plays garnered her a check for $547.71, which breaks down to an average of $0.42 cents per play.

As for iTunes, artists typically earn 7 t0 10 cents off a 99-cent download, once deductions are taken from the record company, the songwriter, and the retailer.

Spotify board member (and former Napster frontman) Sean Parker said that the company is helping to restore the struggling music industry, but that may not be the case. “No artist will be able to survive to be professional except those who have a significant live business, and that’s very few,” said BMG Right Management Chief Rights Hartwig Masuch.

While Spotify has failed to reveal its exact rates, insiders say the company pays $5,000 to $7,000 per million plays, which breaks down to $0.05 to $0.07 cents per stream, and its last fourth quarter reports revealed that Pandora shelled out $202 million in “content acquisition” fees. Yet, with more than 70 million users between the two of them, their financial contribution to the recording industry—which made $7 billion in annual revenue—is minuscule.

But there are ways to make money from an online presence. Korean rapper Psy earned over $1 million from YouTube thanks to his “Gagnam Style” single which has been viewed over a billion times on the site. On the flip side, YouTube recently stripped billions of page views from some of music’s biggest names for inflating figures.

Sources close to the ex-couple tell TMZ, Chad’s on track to finish his batterer’s intervention program in the next couple months — at which point Chad will ask the judge to terminate his probation and lift the no-contact order.

If that happens, Evelyn would have to get a civil restraining order to keep Chad away — but we’re told she has decided NOT to do that … because she just wants to “move on.”

Chad was sentenced to one year probation and the batterer’s class after pleading “no contest” to domestic battery following the August 11 fight with Evelyn — but since he’s completing the class early … the judge can also lift the probation early.

Despite Evelyn’s decision … we’re told she does NOT want a reunion with Chad.

This is odd. Check out this video that looks at how Austin based company Hart Intercivic which makes voting machines for the presidential election is heavily invested in by a company called H.I.G. Capital which has ties to Mitt Romney and his Bain Capital group. From The Free Press:

Through a closely held equity fund called Solamere, Mitt Romney and his wife, son and brother are major investors in an investment firm called H.I.G. Capital. H.I.G. in turn holds a majority share and three out of five board members in Hart Intercivic, a company that owns the notoriously faulty electronic voting machines that will count the ballots in swing state Ohio November 6. Hart machines will also be used elsewhere in the United States. In other words, a candidate for the presidency of the United States, and his brother, wife and son, have a straight-line financial interest in the voting machines that could decide this fall’s election. These machines cannot be monitored by the public.

As we have previously reported, H.I.G. Capital has on its board of directors at least three close associates of the Romney family. H.I.G. Capital directors John P. Bolduk and Douglas Berman are major Romney fundraisers. So is former Bain and H.I.G. manager Brian Shortsleeve. H.I.G. employees have contributed at least $338,000 to Romney’s campaign. Fully a third of H.I.G.’s leadership previously worked at Romney’s old Bain firm.

According to an eyewitness, a red Volkswagen complete with a Miami sticker on it was parked overnight outside the home Johnson shared with Lozada, who has still to remove her clothes and belongings from the property.

According to documents filed today in New York State Supreme Court, J Prince, Jr. stated that he deserves a cut of the profits earned for introducing Drake to Lil’ Wayne and Cortez Bryant’s management team, Aspire.

In the lawsuit, J Prince Jr. alleges that Bryant and Drake verbally agreed to pay J Prince Jr. a portion of the profits earned.

Prince claims that Bryant verbally agreed to, “use their experience, influence, and relationships to persuade Drake into entering an exclusive recording agreement and an exclusive management agreement with the two of them and Bryant, and was to use his influence to compel Lil’ Wayne to sign and promote Drake to and through Lil’ Wayne’s record company YME, once Drake signed the agreements.”

In addition, given J Prince, Sr’s relationship with Cash Money Records, the distributor of Young Money would “consult with them and take the lead on their business dealings with YME and CMR.”

The lawsuit also claims that on December 10, 2008, Bryant signed Drake to an exclusive management agreement with his company and defendant Roberson’s companies, Laurent and Three Kings, and that Bryant signed Drake to an exclusive recording agreement with his company, Aspire.

J Prince Jr. also claims that in or around April 2009, Bryant made J Prince aware of the signing and pledged to honor the original agreement.

Prince wants the court to appoint a receiver to stop Drake and team from renegotiating their contracts with Drake until they get paid the agreed upon amount.

Taking to Twitter, the Odd Future crooner wrote that the retail giant has abstained from selling his album when it hits physical retail on July 17th. “album won’t be available at target. blame it on a generational gap. best buy on deck though,” he wrote.

Target released a statement to Fuse earlier today explaining why it would not carry the album. “At Target, we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, so our selection of new releases is dedicated to physical CDs rather than titles that are realized digitally in advance of the street date,” said a Target spokesperson. “Our assortment decisions are based on a number of factors, including guest demand. Target has a longstanding tradition of supporting music and artistry that reflects the diverse landscape of American culture.”

Channel Orange is projected to sell between 110,000 and 125,000 copies in its first week, based on iTunes digital sales alone.

After being convicted of running an interstate drug operation, Jimmy Henchman confessed to authorities he was the mastermind behind the shooting and robbery of Tupac Shakur that began the East Coast vs. West Coast war. According to the Village Voice, Henchman participated in “Queen For A Day” government sessions last fall where he confessed to being the brains behind the operation that landed Tupac in the hospital nursing five gunshot wounds.

(The “Queen For A Day” program allows suspected assailants under investigation choose to enter an agreement with the government to confess knowledge of certain crimes with the agreement that the information won’t be used to prosecute them.)

His confession unfolded as he was trying to carve out a cooperation deal that might lead to a reduced sentence, according to federal prosecutors. “Rosemond apparently came clean about his involvement in Tupac’s ambush shortly after his former best friend, Dexter Isaac, stepped forward last summer to publicly confess that he had led the attack on Shakur in 1994. Isaac released a statement on June 16, 2011 to allhiphop.com, saying it was Rosemond who had paid him to rob and pistol-whip Tupac.”

As our friends at HipHopWired pointed out, the statute of limitations when it comes to the robbery is expired. Criminals suspected of robbery can be prosecuted up to seven years after the crime. Though, Henchman and and one of his partners in the Tupac shooting have confessed, they did so well after the statute of limitations had expired. So no extra years can be added on to Henchman’s sure-to-be lengthy prison sentence.

RCA executives have announced that the company is shutting down Arista, Jive and J Records, and that all of the artists currently signed to those labels will be folded into the RCA Records roster. “The path we’ve taken is to refresh RCA, so we’re going to retire those brands,” RCA president and COO Tom Corson told the Hollywood Reporter. “There may be a reason down the line to bring them back, but it’s a clean slate here.”

In the digital age, one might think these closures mean there is little value, awareness or loyalty to a label by name, but the execs insist it’s quite the opposite. “The concept is that thereis value in branding RCA and not having it confused or diluted by other labels,” says Corson. “The artists have all been supportive. We didn’t make this move without consulting our artists, and we haven’t had any push-back. Frankly, they’re the brand. We’re defined by our artists.”

When I expressed my frustration with the US Army, not only did my words come out wrong, I was wrong to even speak them. So, I write this to give my sincerest apology to all members of the United States military services, as well as their families that were offended by my most recent lyrics.

As a young man who grew up in the post-9/11 era, I have watched our country fight two wars that seem like they are never going to end.

I have seen thousands and thousands of our brave men and women get killed in battle and often times, I think for what? A lot of people in this country are struggling to make ends meet and I think a lot about what if we had never gone to war.

Where would our economy be? Our schools, our after-school and work programs, our streets? I mean, damn, 48 people got shot in New York City just this past weekend … in 3 days … I’m not saying that it is just because of a bad economy, but at a certain point we have to take care of our own people.

In no way would I ever want to offend those who are protecting our freedoms … a lot of homeboys who I grew up with, a lot of people who come from the neighborhoods we live in … In no way do I want to hurt any of our honorable soldiers who put their lives at risk, regardless of how they feel about the two wars we fight in.

I am just frustrated that we haven’t been able to bring you all home quick enough and my frustration got the best of me. I am deeply sorry.

The upcoming season’s cast includes Kimsha Artest, wife of Los Angeles Laker Ron Artest; Jackie Christie, wife of Doug Christie, retired player for the Los Angeles Clippers; and Imani Showalter, ex-fiancée of Charlotte Bobcats’ Stephen Jackson.

The original series is filmed in Miami, and has starred such Shaquille O’Neal’s ex Shaunie, retired center Michael Olowokondi’s ex Suzie Ketcham, Antoine Walker’s ex Evelyn Lozada, and former “Real World” cast member and Kenny Anderson’s ex Tami Roman.

For season four, viewers will probably recognize Gloria Govan, fiancée of Laker Matt Barnes. Gloria bitterly feuded with other cast members during season one, but this time her sister Laura Govan will be there for back up.

“Basketball Wives LA” will premiere on August 29.

XXLMag.com has learned that DJ Mister Cee plead guilty in New York Criminal Court this morning (June 1) to charges of public lewdness and exposure.

The longstanding Hot 97 DJ and associate of Big Daddy Kane and The Notorious B.I.G. was arrested on March 30, after police officers allegedly caught him in a sexual act in Lower Manhattan with another man in the wee hours of the morning.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Officer Lindsay Agard, and obtained by the smokinggun.com, Cee was caught with his “exposed, naked and erect penis” in the mouth of a man by the name of Lawrence Campbell. Campbell, who goes by the moniker Brookle-Lynne Pinklady on his Facebook page, was found with his “mouth and lips in an up-and-down motion consistent with oral sex.”

The bill was signed yesterday before a previous extension, approved by Congress in February, expired at midnight, the White House said. The new law continues the surveillance powers until June 1, 2015.

The measure “will safeguard us from future attacks,” Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said before his chamber’s vote. “By extending this invaluable terror- fighting tool, we’re staying ahead” of terrorists who want to attack the U.S., he said.

The bill’s roving-wiretap section allows federal agents to obtain a single warrant to monitor telephone calls of suspects using a series of mobile phones.

Other provisions allow authorities to obtain business and library records, and to target so-called “lone wolf” suspects who aren’t affiliated with any terrorist group.

Senator Rand Paul, a bill opponent, tried to delay the Senate vote, pressing for the bill to be amended. The Kentucky Republican said the legislation goes too far in violating privacy rights to keep the U.S. secure.

“Do we want a government that looks at our Visa bill?” he said in a May 24 floor speech. “Do we want a government that looks at all of our records and is finding out what our reading habits are?”

The Patriot Act was passed after the Sept. 11 attacks, and many of its provisions are permanent law. Some of its surveillance powers have been opposed by some lawmakers and outside groups, including civil liberties activists.

The strike, which came hours after Gadhafi called for a cease-fire and negotiations in what rebels called a publicity stunt, marked an escalation of international efforts to prevent the Libyan regime from regaining momentum.

Rebels honked horns and chanted “Allahu Akbar” or “God is great” while speeding through the western city of Misrata, which Gadhafi’s forces have besieged and subjected to random shelling for two months, killing hundreds. Fireworks were set off in front of the central Hikma hospital, causing a brief panic that the light would draw fire from Gadhafi’s forces.

The attack struck the house of Gadhafi’s youngest son, Seif al-Arab, when the Libyan leader and his wife were inside. White House spokesman Shin Inouye declined to comment on the developments in Libya, referring questions to NATO.

The alliance acknowledged that it had struck a “command and control building in the Bab al-Azizya neighborhood” Saturday evening, but it could not confirm the death of Gadhafi’s son and insisted all its targets are military in nature and linked to Gadhafi’s systematic attacks on the population.

The commander of the NATO operation, Canadian Lt. Gen. Charles Bouchard, said he was aware of unconfirmed reports that some Gadhafi family members may have been killed and he regretted “all loss of life, specially the innocent civilians being harmed as a result of the ongoing conflict.”

Hal Wick of Sioux Falls, asks that each citizen residing in the state of South Dakota who has attained the age of twenty-one years shall purchase or otherwise acquire a firearm suitable to their temperament, physical capacity, and personal preference sufficient to provide for their ordinary self-defense.

Sounds like the raddest bill ever, right? And one that would definitely make South Dakota the safest state in the union, partly because everyone would either move away, or die, from being shot.

But, of course, it’s a “stunt” engineered by Wick to, I guess, “prove” that the government can’t require you to buy health care. (Does Rep. Wick know that the federal government and the state government of South Dakota are two different things imbued with different rights and powers? Before the public (and the media) gets their knickers in a twist, somebody should hit the bird control agencies with a Freedom of Informatio­n Act request for a list of all their nuisance bird control projects with 20 miles of the site of the die-off. Even when it’s not the government­, a lot of farmers who are visited by vast flocks of blackbirds will take matters into their own hands. By soaking grain in liquid or disolved pesticides and putting it out for the birds to eat, they can wipe out hundreds or thousands of birds quickly. It is completely illegal for private citizens to do this, and it’s far more environmen­tally damaging. Unlike the poisons used by the government­, which kill only the target birds, pesticides intended for other uses will often turn the bird carcasses into toxic timebombs, killing the scavengers that feed on the bodies of the blackbirds through secondary toxicity. One way or another, die-offs result from human activity far more often than many would like to admit.

When the number of Americans on food stamps goes up, JP Morgan makes more money. In the video posted below, JP Morgan executive Christopher Paton admits that this is “a very important business to JP Morgan” and that it is doing very well. Considering the fact that the number of Americans on food stamps has exploded from 26 million in 2007 to 43 million today, one can only imagine how much JP Morgan’s profits in this area have soared. But doesn’t this give JP Morgan an incentive to keep the number of Americans enrolled in the food stamp program as high as possible?

There are just some things that are a little too “creepy” to be “outsourced” to private corporations. The JP Morgan executive in the interview below does his best to put a positive spin on all this, but it just seems really unsavory for a big Wall Street bank to be making so much money off of the suffering of tens of millions of Americans….
