The worst fears of Chicago Public School teachers and staffers were confirmed Friday when district officials announced it was laying off some 850 employees.

“Given the historic financial crisis facing our District, next year’s budget will not come without painful decisions, which is why we are making tough choices at central office in order to minimize impacts to our classrooms,” said CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett in a statement Friday. “We will continue this work over the next several weeks to further identify reductions to central office spending to help close the District’s $1 billion deficit and make sure that every dollar helps protect precious classroom funding.”

Affected employees are those in the 55 schools closing at the end of the current school year as well as those slated for “turnaround”, WBEZ reports. CPS said a portion of those losing their jobs were either probationary teachers or teachers with unsatisfactory performance reviews.

As the news trickled in late Friday, the Chicago Teachers Union had not yet been notified that the layoffs were happening, according to the Sun-Times.

CTU President Karen Lewis met with Byrd-Bennett Friday morning and no mention of layoffs was made, DNAinfo Chicago reports. At a press conference, Lewis said the pink slips were issued “before anyone knows how many students will return to CPS next year and how many students in closing campuses will actually enroll in so-called welcoming schools.”

At the closing schools, the cuts are nearly half of the staff which include teachers, paraprofessionals, bus aides and part-time staffers.

The CTU is inviting the public to attend an injunction hearing at the Dirksen Federal Building starting July 16.

A record 5,695 people died from diabetes and related causes in 2011, the Health Department said.
That amounts to one death every 90 minutes, 16 deaths every day.

The surge in diabetes deaths comes even as the overall death rate is falling and life expectancy improving — so the portion of all city deaths linked to diabetes has nearly doubled since 1990, to 10.8%.

Officials linked the grim diabetes statistics to an increase in obesity. And they used the numbers to make another pitch for Mayor Bloomberg’s push to ban large sugary drinks. A state judge struck down the ban earlier this year, but the Bloomberg administration is appealing.

“In the wake of the obesity epidemic, we’ve got a diabetes epidemic,” said Health Commissioner Thomas Farley.
The city previously reported that 650,000 New Yorkers have diabetes, a jump of 200,000 since 2002.

Diabetes deaths are particularly high among black New Yorkers, who have a rate of 116 deaths for every 100,000 people, compared with 81 for Hispanics, 45 for whites, and 41 for Asians.

Men are dying at a rate 1.4 times higher than women.

And there are huge gaps between neighborhoods — with rates ranging from 19 deaths per 100,000 in Murray Hill, Manhattan, to 177 in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

But the rate of death has increased in almost all neighborhoods and fallen in only seven.

“It absolutely tracks the disparities in obesity. Low-income people and minorities tend to have higher obesity because they live in poor neighborhoods where they have less healthy foods and more unhealthy foods available to them,” Farley said.

Jackson, who stepped down as Congressman earlier in the year, is accused of misappropriating $750,000 in campaign funds to cover his lavish personal expenses.

In addition to prison, the government wants Jackson to pay a restitution fee to cover the money. “When one views the Defendant’s history and characteristics, his financial condition at the time of the conspiracy, the nature and circumstances of the offense, the seriousness of the offense, and the need for avoiding unwarranted sentencing disparities, there can be little doubt that a sentence of 48 months is appropriate,” prosecutors wrote in a 45-page sentencing memo filed Friday (June 7).

An 18-month sentence was recommended for his wife, Alderman Sandi Jackson, also accused in the scandal. “[Sandi Jackson] was not simply a beneficiary of her husband’s theft,” they added. “[She] stole. In fact, she stole a lot.”

Prosecutors pointed out that the Jacksons were taking money even though the Congressman’s salary placed him in the Top 10 percent of all households in America.
A federal probe into his finances was the tip of the iceberg in a trying year for the politician. Last June, Jackson went on leave for what was later announced as treatment for bipolar disorder. He checked into the Mayo Clinic, won reelection in November, and stepped down weeks later.

His father, Rev. Jesse Jackson penned a letter to the judge asking for leniency. “I am not sure at what point Jesse Jr. began to foil his own ambitions,” the elder Jackson wrote. “Whether the depression began to set in, whether the duodenal bariatric surgery, which requires strict medical discipline, or where the bipolar disorder fit into the trajectory. But I do know that when we as a family realized this, he has been under substantial medical treatment for recovery and in honoring his doctor’s prescription.”
With the exception of a robocall to constituents, and brief statements at random, the father of two has not opened up about his money scandal or health status.

He and his wife will be sentenced on July 3. The couple struck a plea deal back in February.

The program, code-named PRISM, has not been made public until now. It may be the first of its kind. The NSA prides itself on stealing secrets and breaking codes, and it is accustomed to corporate partnerships that help it divert data traffic or sidestep barriers. But there has never been a Google or Facebook before, and it is unlikely that there are richer troves of valuable intelligence than the ones in Silicon Valley.

Equally unusual is the way the NSA extracts what it wants, according to the document: “Collection directly from the servers of these U.S. Service Providers: Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, PalTalk, AOL, Skype, YouTube, Apple.”

PRISM was launched from the ashes of President George W. Bush’s secret program of warrantless domestic surveillance in 2007, after news media disclosures, lawsuits and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court forced the president to look for new authority.

Congress obliged with the Protect America Act in 2007 and the FISA Amendments Act of 2008, which immunized private companies that cooperated voluntarily with U.S. intelligence collection. PRISM recruited its first partner, Microsoft, and began six years of rapidly growing data collection beneath the surface of a roiling national debate on surveillance and privacy. Late last year, when critics in Congress sought changes in the FISA Amendments Act, the only lawmakers who knew about PRISM were bound by oaths of office to hold their tongues.

The court-approved program is focused on foreign communications traffic, which often flows through U.S. servers even when sent from one overseas location to another. Between 2004 and 2007, Bush administration lawyers persuaded federal FISA judges to issue surveillance orders in a fundamentally new form. Until then the government had to show probable cause that a particular “target” and “facility” were both connected to terrorism or espionage.

In four new orders, which remain classified, the court defined massive data sets as “facilities” and agreed to certify periodically that the government had reasonable procedures in place to minimize collection of “U.S. persons” data without a warrant.

In a statement issue late Thursday, Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper said “information collected under this program is among the most important and valuable foreign intelligence information we collect, and is used to protect our nation from a wide variety of threats. The unauthorized disclosure of information about this important and entirely legal program is reprehensible and risks important protections for the security of Americans.”

According to reports, the arrest went down Wednesday morning in Chi-Town.

A rapper associated with Chief Keef, the teen who’s made news for his music and arrests, was arrested again for a gun violation early Wednesday in the South Side’s Englewood neighborhood. Durk D. Banks, 20, of Melrose Park, was charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, according to Chicago Police. He was released on July 27 last year and was scheduled to complete his parole at the end of July, according to state records. (Chicago Tribune)

According to documents filed in Fulton County, Ga., Kenya failed to make the full rent payment for May — she was $848 short — and also defaulted on the terms and conditions of the lease.

The owner of the six-bedroom, six-bathroom home in the suburb of Roswell is now seeking rent for June, along with more $2500 in eviction fees and damages.

“The sheriff’s department posted the notice on Kenya’s home last Thursday but she still doesn’t know that she has been evicted because she hasn’t been home yet,” a source in the neighborhood told RadarOnline.com.

According to a neighbor, the 42-year-old former Miss USA is the “neighbor from hell” and the landlord, Conya Weems, has been inundated with complaints ever since she moved in the upmarket community specifically to film for the Bravo series.

“The homeowner is incredibly upset at what is unwanted attention that has been caused as a result of Kenya moving into the neighborhood,” the source said.

“Owners are concerned that the value of their properties are going down because she has not maintained the landscaping, nor the pool, has even storied furniture outside and her dog is always on the loose.”

Moore has until June 7 to answer her landlord’s complaint.

Although Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh may be on the road to a repeat trip to the NBA Finals, it seems like shady business dealings, along with their diminishing play, are starting to cast a dark shadow over their star. During the NBA lockout in the summer of 2011, a group of investors attempted to stage a 10 day exhibition tour featuring the top players in the NBA, including Wade and Bosh. As part of that tour, the investors agreed to pay Dwyane Wade more than $1,000,000 and Chris Bosh more than $500,000. Monies were placed in escrow upon each of them signing the contract, with the other half to be paid at the conclusion of the tour.

When the tour didn’t happen because of the ending of the lock-out, the attorney for Wade and Bosh (they have the same attorney), had the $750,000.00 released to his clients. The attorney argued that because the tour didn’t happen, through no fault of his clients, his clients were entitled to all the money that was deposited. Wade and Bosh received $750,000 and didn’t have to get on a plane, do any press, play any games, or even make an appearance.

Jermaine Dupri is in jeopardy of losing his rights to the music from his So So Def label … because he can’t seem to pay off an enormous loan.

Dupri borrowed $4.8 mil from SunTrust Bank back in 2010 …. he paid more than half of it back, but then the bank stopped getting payments. So SunTrust is now suing Dupri for nearly $2 mil — the balance due, plus interest.

Here’s the BIG problem … In order to get the loan, Dupri had put up collateral, in the form of copyrights and royalties to the many songs his label owns from artists like Xscape, Bow Wow and Da Brat.

As far as we can see, Dupri still hasn’t anted up the cash. And it’s not his only trouble with $$$. He paid off a $3 MILLION tax lien in February and dodged the foreclosure of his Atlanta mansion TWICE in the past year.

Calls to Dupri have not been returned.

TMZ broke the story … a man was seriously injured January 9 in Hollywood after colliding with a Bentley that was making an illegal turn. After some crack investigating by the motorcyclist’s friend, cops got wind that the phantom car may have belonged to Soulja Boy.

Cops then checked a secret network of cameras that take photo around L.A. and capture cars on the road. They punched in the license plate number of the Bentley and found multiple pics of the car with damage that corresponded to the accident. But they did not have pics capturing the accident.

Police have arrested Abrahim Mustafa … we’re told he’s one of Soulja Boy’s hangers-on. He’s a rapper who goes by Arab. He’s been arrested for felony hit-and-run.

We’re told cops still want to speak to Soulja Boy.

New details into Duncan’s pending divorce from wife Amy are emerging, including such revelations as Amy moved out of the family home several weeks ago…

The San Antonio Express is reporting that ten-time All-NBA forward Tim Duncan had concerns about his marriage as long as a year ago and hired a private investigator to tail his wife of twelve years.

Further reports claim attorney Sue M. Hall, lead counsel for Duncan, countered by requesting that the date for discovery be amended from June 13 until 30 days after the Spurs playoff run ends. San Antonio now leads Memphis 2-0 in the Western Conference Finals.

In the request to have the discovery gate delayed, T.T.D. (Duncan’s middle name is Theodore) was identified as a member of the Spurs team whose “employment is currently making extraordinary demands on him and hopefully will continue to make those demands for the next 30 days or so,” TMZ reported.

Duncan’s attorney also indicate his client plans to enforce a prenuptial agreement the couple signed at the time of the union, which came some four years after he was selected as the first pick in the 1997 NBA draft, according to TMZ. Just last year, Duncan inked a 3-year, $36 million extension with the team.

The couple has two small children, and seems Duncan has indicated he and his soon to be ex will come to an agreement over financial support.

Our story begins on January 9, when a motorcyclist T-boned a red Bentley in Hollywood … leaving the biker seriously injured … but the driver of the Bentley — who caused the crash by making a reckless turn — fled the scene.

We’re told a witness — the victim’s friend — was so pissed off, he went back to the scene of the crime a few days later and nosed around, asking people if they knew who was driving the red Bentley. He struck gold at Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles … when a valet told the guy he knew the car well … it belonged to Soulja Boy, who frequented the area.

The witness went to police with the info … and that’s when things got Orwellian.

Turns out, the cops have access to a super-database of photographs taken by thousands of hidden cameras stationed on police cars, buildings and private vehicles all over L.A.. There are private companies that make money off the City by getting citizens and businesses to mount cameras for the database.

One law enforcement source tells us the cameras are constantly taking photos of cars all over the city — and the average car is shot AT LEAST 1,000 TIMES PER DAY!!!

So … the cops got the license plate number of Soulja Boy’s Bentley, ran it through the database and BINGO … a bunch of photos popped up showing the Bentley with damage that corresponded to the accident.

Soulja’s Bentley is currently damage-free. Law enforcement sources tell us the operating theory is that the rapper had the car repaired on the sly to cover up incriminating evidence.

So cops got a search warrant and a judge agreed there was probable cause to believe the Bentley was involved in the accident, so cops went and impounded the car.

You’re probably as shocked as we are about the cameras … cops tell us they solve hundreds of crimes with these secret photographs. So even if you’re a law abiding citizen, you probably still pick your nose, so heads up.

A house linked to the shooting of a 15-year-old girl in Pine Hills last year has ties to current and recent National Football League athletes, newly available records in the case obtained by the Orlando Sentinel show.

One of the players, former University of Central Florida and Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Mike Sims-Walker, was directly involved in the investigation, records show, at one point entering an Orange County Sheriff’s Office interview room to talk with his cousin, a victim in the case who authorities suspected was lying.

Prosecutors have described the home on Robbins Avenue as a nondescript setting where pro athletes could hang out and bring women while visiting Orlando — away from the view of the media.

In her opening statement in the trial of Tyrone Mosby — the gang member charged with attempted murder in Danielle’s wounding — prosecutor Nicole Pegues described the Robbins Avenue home as a place NFL pros go “if they want to step out on their girlfriends and their wives … outside of anywhere else where media might catch them.”

Gunfire erupted after a burglary there July 29, and a stray bullet struck Danielle Sampson as she rode in her parents’ minivan, rendering the Apopka High athlete severely brain-damaged.

The football players were not suspected of any crime or involvement in the burglary or shooting. Indeed, video evidence shows Sims-Walker was helpful to the Sheriff’s Office.

In an effort to attract younger viewers, Fox is set to make major changes to the show, including an entirely new judging panel. All four current judges have options to return for another season, but Fox won’t be picking them up, according to the insider, who said, “No more big checks for divas.”

Fox’s major restructuring was spurred by the show’s plummeting viewership. Its ratings are already down 22 percent this season and it hit a series low for ratings last Thursday, attracting only 11 million viewers. This is a major problem during May Sweeps, where ratings numbers are used to calculate advertising rates.

The network has also resolved to stop paying the over-the-top salaries it’s been handing out to its judges, i.e. Carey’s reported $18 million package, Minaj’s $12 million deal, and former judge Lopez’s $15 million salary.

PepsiCo cut ties with its popular pitchman Friday over his controversial lyric mentioning 1950s civil rights martyr Emmett Till in the crudest of ways.

-”Beat that pu–y up like Emmett Till,” the 30-year-old rapped on Future’s “Karate Chop” remix, which was later pulled due to the offensive reference.

Weezy recently apologized for (well, acknowledged) the controversy in a letter to Emmett Till’s family, but that apparently did not go far enough.

PepsiCo released a statement asserting that Weezy’s “offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.”

“We do not plan any additional work with Lil Wayne moving forward.”

Tunechi’s rep confirmed the split with the food and beverage corporation, but called it “an amicable parting” of ways due to “creative differences.”

When he was 14, Emmett Till was beaten beyond recognition in Mississippi in 1955 for allegedly whistling at a white woman and nothing more.

Epic Records removed the obscene lyric from the song and issued an apology, and Weezy said he will not be performing it in any way again.

Yet the Till family was still outraged by the lack of a sincere apology and called for Mountain Dew to sever its ties with the Young Money CEO.

Millions of Americans suffered a loss of wealth during the recession and the sluggish recovery that followed. But the last half-decade has proved far worse for black and Hispanic families than for white families, starkly widening the already large gulf in wealth between non-Hispanic white Americans and most minority groups, according to a new study from the Urban Institute.

“It was already dismal,” Darrick Hamilton, a professor at the New School in New York, said of the wealth gap between black and white households. “It got even worse.”

Given the dynamics of the housing recovery and the rebound in the stock market, the wealth gap might still be growing, experts said, further dimming the prospects for economic advancement for current and future generations of Americans from minority groups.

The Urban Institute study found that the racial wealth gap yawned during the recession, even as the income gap between white Americans and nonwhite Americans remained stable. As of 2010, white families, on average, earned about $2 for every $1 that black and Hispanic families earned, a ratio that has remained roughly constant for the last 30 years. But when it comes to wealth — as measured by assets, like cash savings, homes and retirement accounts, minus debts, like mortgages and credit card balances — white families have far outpaced black and Hispanic ones. Before the recession, non-Hispanic white families, on average, were about four times as wealthy as nonwhite families, according to the Urban Institute’s analysis of Federal Reserve data. By 2010, whites were about six times as wealthy.

The dollar value of that gap has grown, as well. By the most recent data, the average white family had about $632,000 in wealth, versus $98,000 for black families and $110,000 for Hispanic families.

“The racial wealth gap is deeply rooted in our society,” said Caroline Ratcliffe, one of the authors of the Urban Institute study. “It’s here, it’s not going away, and we need to care about it.”

The study goes on to explain exactly why there is such an increasing rift between black wealth and white wealth.

Many experts consider the wealth gap to be more pernicious than the income gap, as it perpetuates from generation to generation and has a powerful effect on economic security and mobility. Young black people are much less likely than young white people to receive a large sum from their parents or other relatives to pay for college, start a business or make a down payment on a home, for instance. That, in turn, makes their wealth-building prospects shakier as they move into adulthood.

Two major factors helped to widen this wealth gap in recent years. The first is that the housing downturn hit black and Hispanic households harder than it hit white households, in aggregate. Many young Hispanic families, for instance, bought homes as the housing bubble was inflating and reaching its peak, leaving them saddled with heavy debt burdens as house prices plunged in places like suburban Phoenix and inland California.

Black families also were hit disproportionately by the housing collapse, because heading into the recession housing constituted a higher proportion of their wealth than for white families, leaving them more exposed when the market crashed. Higher unemployment rates and lower incomes among blacks left them less able to keep paying their mortgages and more likely to lose their homes, experts said.

Discriminatory lending practices were also a factor. “We know that communities of color, their rate of subprime or predatory loans was twice what it is in the overall population,” said Tom Shapiro, the director of the Institute on Assets and Social Policy at Brandeis University.

Andra Vaik’s lawyer tells us, “While this case is still in the preliminary stage, it is clear from our investigation that Robert Kardashian’s violent behavior and his use of force towards Ms. Vaik was completely unjustified.”

For his part, Rob says he lashed out because the photog trespassed onto private property to take the photos. Witnesses back Rob up … saying the photog was in the garage … hiding in her car and then making her move when Rob took his shirt off.

The DOW Jones (stock market indicator) plunged 160 points after a bogus tweet sent out from the compromised Associated Press Twitter account announced 2 explosions that inured President Obama at the White House today. The bogus tweet read: “Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured.”

Immediately after the bogus tweet went out, the White House and the AP quickly assured the public that the tweets were false. But shock waves from the non-event were felt on Wall Street as the DOW plunged 100 points but quickly recovered.

An editor with the AP tweeted, “Please ignore AP tweet on explosions, we’ve been hacked.” And White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told the media: “The President is fine, I was just with him.”

A group called the Syrian Electronic Army claimed responsibility for the hacking.
The incident is the latest high profile social media account to be hacked. Twitter.com support advises uses to be diligent and cautious while using the service. Avoid clicking “phishing” links that masquerade as legitimate websites such as a Twitter login page.

Lauryn Hill has had her trials and tribulations, but one of the biggest may be upon her.

Her sentencing on tax evasion charges was supposed to be today, but her fate was suspended. A judged postponed her case for two weeks, apparently to allow her to make the money in back taxes.

Ms. Hill owes the government $504,000 in back unpaid taxes and has paid $50,000 thus far. She faces up to 30 months in prison and has admitted guilt in the case.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Madeline Cox Arleo seemed annoyed of the effort Hill has mad so far.

“This is not someone who stands before the court penniless,” Arleo said in a report to Yahoo.com. “This is a criminal matter. Actions speak louder than words, and there has been no effort here to pay these taxes.”

Her lawyer said that the singer/rapper would be able to pay.

“I fully expect that by May 3 Ms. Hill will be able to pay back all the restitution she has,” Nathan Hochman said.

Hill is now slated for a May 6 day in court.

Details of Scrappy’s financial crunch have started to circulate online and claim the debt dates back three years.

“Love & Hip Hop” star Lil Scrappy better have some “Money in the Bank” left over from his rap career … because his TV checks are about to be garnished … to help pay off a $100,000 debt. Long story short … Scrappy was supposed to cough up $72,218.68 to a concert booking company called Heavy Rotation back in 2010 — after he lost a legal battle in GA court. But according to HR, Scrappy never paid up. (TMZ)

The debt is reportedly for just under $110,000 and has already received court approval.

The debt has since ballooned to $108,510.38 with interest and attorney’s fees. Tired of waiting for their loot … HR requested to have chunks of Scrappy’s “Love & Hip Hop” cash go straight to them first, until the debt’s satisifed … which the court signed off on. According to TMZ, Bosh’s kids, another teenager and two babysitters were in the home at the time of the burglary, but none of them heard a thing.

Police say the thieves took their time and handpicked all of the items they wanted. Bosh’s championship ring was spared.

The player and his wife, Adrienne, were out celebrating his 29th birthday at the time of the break in. When they got home they realized their closet had been ransacked. Bosh contacted his security director and his assistant. Police were called at 12:30 a.m.

There were no signs of forced entry, however two doors were unlocked.

“We are leaning on the side of this being an inside job,” Miami Beach Police spokesman Bobby Hernandez told NBC Miami.

Police are interviewing the babysitters and checking to see if any contractors had been to the home recently.

The home is equipped with surveillance cameras and an alarm. The alarm wasn’t activated because the babysitters were there. Authorities are reviewing tape from the cameras looking for leads.

His friend decided to get drunk that night and valet park the car inside the lobby of Hill’s condo complex. After being taken care of by paramedics, his friend was arrested and booked for DUI. Good luck to Hill trying to get that covered by insurance.

Jvaris Crittenton, the 6’5 guard who played for Georgia Tech, was the 19th pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2007 NBA draft. He’s seen his fair share of controversy in the NBA, when back in 2010 he threatened to shoot then teammate Gilbert Arenas, and was accused of shooting and killing a 22-year-old woman in 2011 in an attempted retaliation for being robbed by alleged Southwest Atlanta gang members days prior.

He was indicted by an Atlanta jury on April 2nd on 12 charges which include murder. The DA is expecting Crittenton to turn himself in shortly.

DJ Clue, whose real name is Ernesto Shaw, was driving a black Range Rover with New Jersey plates when he was stopped at the checkpoint on Varick Street at about 2 a.m.

Police checked his driving record and found the 38-year-old deejay was driving with a license that had been suspended eight times, according to law enforcement sources.

When police went to arrest him on the suspended license charge, they searched him and found three pills wrapped in tin foil, law enforcement sources said.

DJ Clue was taken into custody and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and aggravated unlicensed operator. He’s expected to be arraigned in Manhattan court later Wednesday.

Cathy’s Kids, a foundation he started in 2004 after losing his mother to stomach cancer, is being accused of not giving a cent to cancer research in the nine years it has been operating.

Although the charity’s mission is supposed to be “making a positive impact on the lives of under-privileged children, as well as targeting a disease that has played a significant role in [Odom's] life,” it only seems he’s kept up half of that bargain. Cathy’s Kids’ mission statement continues, “Lamar lost his mother to stomach cancer and subsequently is committed to help causes that are focused on finding a cure and helping people who suffer from the disease. Lamar is focused on ensuring that funds are available for under-privileged youth that live in the inner cities of New York and Los Angeles.”

The latter part seems to be the one promise he has kept.

According to an investigation by ESPN, eight years of tax records show that Cathy’s Kids “primarily existed to finance two elite youth basketball travel teams. Of the $2.2 million raised by the charity, at least 60 percent — $1.3 million — went to those AAU teams.”

A chunk of the money raised by the charity also went into the bank account of its secretary, Jerry DeGregorio, a longtime confidante of Odom’s who was both his high school basketball coach and best man at his 2009 wedding to Kardashian. DeGregorio, now an assistant coach with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, reportedly earned a median annual salary of $72,000 from 2004 to 2011 from the charity … even though Cathy’s Kids was operating at a loss. In 2011, the organization’s tax return showed a debt of $256,000, according to ESPN. A rep for the Warriors did not immediately respond to omg!’s request for comment on DeGregorio’s involvement.

ESPN also reports that Cathy’s Kids implied it has been “dormant for years,” despite the fact that it is still fundraising. Although the page of for the charity on Odom’s personal website is inactive, his wife has been busy selling her used clothing and accessories on eBay all in the name of Cathy’s Kids. As of press time, 15 items – including Dior sunglasses, J Brand skinny jeans, and Bottega Veneta platform sandals – are all on the auction block and as the page implicitly states, “all auction items benefit Cathy’s Kids, a Lamar Odom Foundation.”

A rep for Kardashian also did not immediately respond to omg!’s request for comment regarding the allegations made against Cathy’s Kids and her husband.

After no one from Cathy’s Kids would agree to an interview, ESPN confronted Odom about the allegations in the locker room after a recent game and reports that he “became visibly upset and ended the conversation.” A month later, the hoops star granted an in-person interview in Los Angeles, “but Odom still didn’t answer questions, saying he just wanted to apologize for the locker-room scene. When pressed for details about some of the expenses, including DeGregorio’s salary, listed on the IRS forms, Odom repeatedly responded by saying, ‘It’s my money,’ and refusing to explain any further.”

According to reports, the New Orleans hip-hop artist’s September 2012 crimes finally caught up to him while out in Las Vegas.

Barnes, 28, who was known as “Chopper Young City” during his glint of fame appearing on the MTV show “Making the Band 2,” was busted for simple battery, unauthorized use of a movable and extortion, from a pair of alleged crimes last September, New Orleans police say. Details on those crimes were not immediately available. The allegations of extortion and unauthorized use of a vehicle stem from an incident Sept. 6. The simple battery allegation is from a separate incident on Sept. 22, police say. Barnes was arrested just after midnight Tuesday morning at the south end of the Las Vegas Strip, around a shopping center called Town Square. (NOLA)

A fight is what reportedly led to Chopper having police sent his way.

According to Las Vegas police, Barnes was stopped after a report of a fight just after midnight. Barnes faces no charges in Las Vegas, but is being held on a fugitive warrant from Louisiana, a police spokeswoman said. Las Vegas police say they alerted New Orleans police before arresting Barnes. Yet neither NOPD nor District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s office has made a move to bring him home. Officer Garry Flot, an NOPD spokesman, said it was the district attorney’s decision on whether to extradite. Assistant District Attorney Christopher Bowman, a spokesman for Cannizzaro’s office, said late Friday that the first they learned of Barnes’ arrest, or the warrant, was from a NOLA.com | Times-Picayune reporter. The Obama administration has conceded that the across-the-board budget cuts are likely here for awhile, and Republicans are split over whether or not that’s a good thing or a bad thing. But even as the long-term economic impacts of sequestration remain murky, its day-to-day impacts are becoming increasingly evident.

Below, CBSNews.com rounds up a handful of sequestration’s impacts to date, from widespread staff furlough notices, to canceled White House visitor tours, to a reduction in early education opportunities for low-income kids.

Furloughs

Because the government mandates that federal employees receive a month’s notice before being furloughed, none of the planned furloughs have yet gone into effect. But across the federal government, thousands of workers have been notified that their hours – and their pay – are being cut.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued furlough notices to approximately 47,200 employees, who will be required to take up to 11 days of unpaid leave between April 7 and September 30.

The Department of Defense sends out its first furlough notices Friday. A spokeswoman for the department said last month nearly all 800,000 civilian employees would be furloughed one day per week.

Furlough notices have been sent out at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), proposing furloughs of 13 days or less for employees over the next seven months as a result of sequestration.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will furlough 6,200 food inspectors for 11 days this summer, starting in July, according to the Iowa Farmer Today. The USDA says that would disrupt meat exports to the tune of $8 billion. A spending bill passed in the Senate Wednesday would provide $55 million to the USDA through September to help avoid these furloughs. The money will be allocated if the House passes the bill today and then gets signed into law by the president.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection has also scheduled its furloughs, according to Fox News Latino, which reports that all 60,000 full-time employees will be furloughed for no more than 14 days starting on April 21.

Military-related cuts

The Department of Defense cites a generally “insidious degradation” of the entire department’s capabilities as a result of sequestration, but according to reports, some programs have already taken a hit:

Earlier this month, the Army announced it would be suspending a tuition assistance program for soldiers enrolling in classes as a result of sequester cuts. According to USA Today, 250,000 troops will subsequently be denied tuition for enrollment. The Marine Corps, too, has cut its program. However, a spending bill passed by the Senate Wednesday would, if approved by the House today, restore funding for this program through the end of September.
Scholarships for the children of troops who were slain in combat have also been slashed as a result of sequestration, according to ABC News. Going forward, the so-called Iraq and Afghanistan War Grants will be reduced by 37.8 percent.

According to Maryland’s Fort Stewart Patch, the Army’s community outreach efforts have slowed down dramatically at Fort Meade, a military installation in Maryland. The Fort Stewart Patch reports that aerial demonstrations and military open houses will be put on hold as of April 1, and the Army Parachute Team will stop performing publicly for the remainder of the fiscal year.
The Air Force Thunderbirds, the Nevada-based air demonstration squadron of the United States Air Force, is also grounded as of April 1.

House members will also be banned from using military aircraft for trips, according to House Speaker John Boehner.
Unemployment

Some are notifying unemployment claimants that Federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) will be cut beginning in. In Pennsylvania, for example, EUC payments will be reduced by 10.7 percent.

Education

While many of sequestration’s impacts won’t affect education until the next fiscal year, Head Start programs – which provide early education opportunities for lower-income kids – have started reducing their services all across the country:

According to the Indiana Journal Gazette, “At least two Indiana Head Start programs have resorted to a random drawing to determine which three-dozen preschool students will be removed from the education program for low-income families,” for purposes of managing budget cuts.
In Pennsylvania, the funding cuts have limited in the amount of food and supplies Head Start programs are able to provide, and curbed their abilities to buy fuel for buses and transportation, according to the Pennsylvania Daily Review.

Head Start programs in Florida and Tennessee have reported similar transportation cuts.
Other services

A handful of other programs have been hit as well, from nuclear plants to the National Weather Service.

According to the Associated Press, almost 250 people were laid off this week at Hanford Nuclear Reservation, the nation’s most contaminated nuclear site, thanks to sequester-related cuts. 2,500 more employees were given furlough notices of “several weeks.”

Politico reports that the National Archives will be limiting their hours to researchers starting Friday in order to avoid sequester-related furloughs.

Last week, the National Weather Service announced a mandatory spending freeze to management positions, as well as management travel and training.

Interestingly, the NYPD is alleging that the footage in the video actually took place in real life, and that they’ve matched the getaway car to the car in the video.

Prosecutors released a statement claiming, “There have been a string of armed robberies in the Bronx and Westchester County, in which a group of men brandished guns and knives and stole thousands of dollars from bodega owners and deliverymen. In one 2011 robbery in Mount Vernon, NY, a man was shot and killed.”

Five members of the Crimescene Entertainment family have been found guilty of several relating crimes.

Former boxer Mike Tyson isn’t the only slugger with a biting problem.

Adrien “The Problem” Broner, 23, the youngest world champion boxer and a HBO ring star, was arrested Monday after reportedly biting another man at Miami Beach’s luxurious Fontainebleau Hotel.

According to the arrest report, Broner got into a fight with a man named Michael Owensby around 3:30 a.m. on the hotel’s valet ramp. When two security employees tried to break up the fight, Broner allegedly bit one of the guards on the right forearm.

When police arrived, hotel security already had Broner in custody. He told police he did not hit anyone, and officers note they saw a bite wound on the victim’s arm.

The police report lists Broner as under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest.

Broner was later released on $1,500 bond, tweeting:

Broner is considered boxing’s “next big thing” (via Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated), and his impressive knockout power and polarizing personality are exactly what the sport needs to remain in the spotlight. Unfortunately, alleged incidents with the law don’t bode well for the 23-year-old and his standing in professional boxing.

According to Lem Satterfield of The Ring, Broner is expected to fight again on June 15, “potentially against Scottish WBO counterpart Ricky Burns.” While that fight is still up in the air, Broner will also be dealing with the fallout of HBO no longer being in business with his promoter, as Kevin Lole of Yahoo! Stoudemire, who had been playing well off the bench, will have the procedure to remove tissue within the week, the Knicks said Saturday before their game against the Utah Jazz.

Stoudemire missed the first 30 games after having the same surgery, called a debridement, on his left knee during the preseason. He returned on New Year’s Day and has averaged 14.2 points in 29 games as a reserve.

”I feel for the young man because he put so much time and hard work in, but we’ve got to go on,” Knicks coach Mike Woodson said.

The Knicks were also without Carmelo Anthony, sitting out his third straight game with a sore and stiff right knee.

But the Stoudemire news was a surprise, since there was no indication there had been any problem with his surgically repaired knees until Saturday morning.

Stoudemire didn’t take part in the Knicks’ morning shootaround, and had an MRI later in the day.

Leading the Brooklyn Nets by 2 1/2 games entering play Saturday, the Knicks have to hope Stoudemire can return for the playoffs.

”It’s a loss, a major loss, to what we’re trying to do, but you know we’re going to have to wait on him and continue our climb,” Woodson said. ”We can’t sit and sulk and feel sad and upset about it. It’s what it is and guys have got to step up and play.”

Stoudemire has a history of knee injuries that made the $100 million contract he signed in 2010 uninsurable. The Knicks were being especially careful since his latest surgery, keeping him on a minutes restriction that started in the low 20s and had recently grown to 30 minutes a night.

And once Anthony was hurt, the Knicks had no choice but to use Stoudemire right to – and even over – that limit. He played 32 minutes Monday in Cleveland, the game in which Anthony was injured, and went 31 minutes two nights later in a victory over Detroit, tying his season high with 22 points in each game.

He scored 16 points Thursday in a loss to Oklahoma City, playing 29 minutes and even throwing down an impressive dunk over Thunder defensive star Serge Ibaka. So even the Knicks were surprised to learn they would be without him again.

”Not what we expected to hear, that’s for sure,” forward Steve Novak said. ”It was like he was out there getting buckets, dunking on guys a day ago, and he’s hurt, so I feel bad for him. I think that the way he was playing, his confidence was high, and you just don’t want to see him get hurt again.”

Bieber — flanked by bodyguards — was leaving the Central London hotel moments ago … and in the mad scramble to his SUV, he made contact with a waiting photog.

The photog — clearly upset by the physical contact — immediately claimed he was assaulted … and began to cuss out Bieber, who was already inside the waiting SUV.

But Bieber clearly heard the photog’s insults (“f**k off back to America”, “f**king little moron”) … ’cause the singer opened his SUV door and sprung out of the car … trying to attack the photog.

While Bieber’s bodyguard held him back, the singer screamed … “What the f**k you say?”

The photog shot back — “You heard what I said … you heard what I f**king said, mate.”

Bieber replied, “I’ll f**king beat the f**k out of you.”

Justin tried to swing at the photog, but his bouncers kept the singer at bay … and eventually pushed him back inside the SUV.

The car left the scene without further incident.

Bieber just tweeted about the incident … saying, “Ahhhhh! Rough morning. Trying to feel better for this show tonight but let the paps get the best of me.”

If Justin Bieber continues to trust Lil Twist with his ultra-expensive cars, then he deserves what he gets, because TMZ has learned Twist had yet another mishap, and this one involves a hit and run.

We’ve learned Lil Twist was driving Justin’s chromed-out Fisker Karma Tuesday, just after 6PM, when he crashed into cement poles protecting a wall at a San Fernando Valley liquor store … damaging the poles and badly damaging the front-end of the car.

Sources tell us … either Twist or one of his passengers told an eyewitness, “Do you know whose car this is? It’s Justin Bieber’s car.”

We’re told a few minutes later, a BMW roared up to the parking lot and the driver told Twist and the passengers, “Get all the pieces from the car [that fell] and put it in the car [the BMW].”  After putting the Fisker parts in the BMW, the 3 men took off in the BMW, leaving the Fisker behind.

Sources say one of the 2 passengers was Chris Brown.  His reps have not confirmed or denied.

FYI — it’s a crime to leave the scene of an accident that causes injury or property damage without exchanging info with the victim — in this case the liquor store owner.  We’re told this was NOT done.

You’ll recall … Twist also caused thousands of dollars worth of damage when he bottomed out Justin’s Ferrari in the Four Seasons Hotel parking lot.  And Twist was speeding in Justin’s Ferrari January 1st when he was stopped by the CHP.  A photog died while taking pics of the scene.

The rep says Rodman wants to use his newly-minted friendship with Kim Jong-un to set the stage for a peace deal, convincing the dictator to engage in talks with Obama. He plans to return to North Korea in the next 6 months to host another kids basketball clinic.

And when he goes back — Rodman will be a LOT more careful about calling Kim Jong-il and Kim Il-sung “great leaders” … in fact, he wants to apologize for making the comment in the first place.

According to the rep, Rodman regrets complimenting the former dictators without fully understanding the extent of their human rights violations. The rep says Rodman is deeply sorry for offending anyone.

After months spent engaged in talks with President Obama in an attempt to avoid budget-slashing government sequestration—which hits today!—he now believes that no negotiation is probably the best policy.

Both President Obama and Congressional Democrats are trying to cajole Boehner back into discussions in an attempt to halt the automatic budget cuts that should take effect later today, but the Speaker is now refusing to even discuss an increase in revenue. Negotiations with the Democrats, Boehner says, were really about:

“How much more money do we want to steal from the American people to fund more government. I’m for no more.”

Boehner’s promised that he won’t engage in any more one-on-one negotiations with President Obama. And wouldn’t you know? House Republicans are proud of their man for standing strong. Representative Steve Scalise, a Republican from Louisiana said:

“I think Friday will be an important day that shows we’re finally willing to stand and fight for conservative principles and force Washington to start living within its means. And that will be a big victory.”

The “big victory,” of course, means that rebellious conservatives won’t challenge Boehner’s speakership.

“If Bishop Eddie Long hadn’t endorsed this they wouldn’t have invested,” said Jason Doss, attorney representing the former members.

A dozen former members of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Ga., filed suit in DeKalb County court in late January. The suit says that Long’s assistant had been warned that businessman Ephren W. Taylor was running a $3 million capital deficit, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

After Long introduced the businessman as his “friend,” the former New Birth members lost more than $1 million investing with the self-described “social capitalist.”

“If Bishop Eddie Long hadn’t endorsed this they wouldn’t have invested,” Jason Doss, attorney for the former members, told the Journal-Constitution.

Long’s church has urged Taylor to repay investors with interest.

“We remain hopeful that Ephren Taylor and companies related to him restore the funds that were taken from congregants at New Birth and churches around the county,” New Birth said in a statement. “We continue to cooperate as the case proceeds.”

The Securities and Exchange Commission charged Taylor in 2012 with running a Ponzi scheme, and a civil case against him is pending. SEC officials said he promised to use investments for charity and to help economically challenged areas but instead diverted the funds he received after speaking to churches, including New Birth, to pay other investors and finance business and personal expenses.

“He preyed upon investors’ faith and their desire to help others, convincing them that they could earn healthy returns while also helping their communities,” said David Woodcock, director of the SEC’s Fort Worth Regional Office in Texas.

Word on the street is that if the forced budget cuts go into effect on March 1, furloughs would temporarily shut US meat plants.

The sequestration, as it has been called, isn’t government jargon we should be ignoring. Especially if you like beef. But that’s not it. The budget cuts that President Obama warned us about will do much more than that. Yesterday, he spoke in front of a crowd of law enforcement officers, emergency responders and firefighters to drive home the point that the cuts will carve a large chunk of programs, jobs and assistance from the nation.

In short, the sequester is BAD NEWS:

“…It won’t consider whether we’re cutting some bloated program that has outlived its usefulness or a vital service that Americans depend on every single day,” Obama said. “It doesn’t make those distinctions.”

But first, why are we facing this crisis anyway?

The sequester was a result of the GOP’s wrangling over the debt ceiling in the summer of 2011, when Republican leaders — who had previously passed clean debt increases 19 times under President Bush — demanded spending cuts as the price for averting a costly default. On the brink of default, Congress passed the Budget Control Act, which enacted immediate spending cuts and created a supercommittee tasked with striking a “grand bargain” to reduce the deficit.

Oh. Well since we know what it is, how is it going to affect us? Take a look and see.

Travel:

The budget cuts will affect airports because it will cut back on airport security and air traffic controllers. Which means one thing: LONG LINES.

Education: 

Thousands of teachers and educators will be laid off. Tens of thousands of parents will have to scramble to find child care for their kids. Hundreds of thousands of Americans will lose access to primary care and preventive care like flu vaccinations and cancer screenings. And then…Obama will have to teach your kids. Which this little girl doesn’t seem too happy about.

W.I.C:

Six hundred thousand low-income pregnant women and mothers of small children will be cut from the [Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program]. That’s about 10 percent of hungry women and children. And you were complaining about longer airport lines.

Law Enforcement:

Think the police take long to respond now? Think again. If budget cuts go into effect on March 1, 1,000 federal law enforcement officials and 1,500 corrections officers would face furloughs. Border patrol and customs agents would be furloughed for two weeks, resulting in a reduction of 5,000 officers and agents at points of entry to the United States.

Where’s The Beef:

And of course…if the sequester takes place, you can say goodbye to tacos, burgers, steak, and everything else your heart desires that has to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The U.S. Department of Agriculture would be forced to furlough thousands of workers for weeks at a time, causing food processors to shut down. And getting sick from food is a real possibility; studies estimate that there would be 600 fewer food inspectors at meat and poultry plants.

In other words, eat wisely, stay out of airports, lock your doors and try not to have a baby in the next month, because we’re all screwed after March 1 if the President can’t convince Republicans that this sequestration is indeed, a bad idea.

While driving in Coconut Grove around Miami around 3:40am this morning, true basketball wife Tracy Mourning was arrested for driving her 2012 Porsche Panamera under the influence!

The seemingly sweet mom of three had a fun night out at Boris Kodjoe‘s ALFA clothing event last night at South Street Restaurant and Bar (pictured above last night with the restaurant’s curator Amaris Jones).

Tracy was stopped after speeding 28 miles over the speed limit and flying through a stop sign.  And then gave the officer a wink and asked if she was speeding.  The Huffington Post reports:

According to the police report, Mourning then ran through a stop sign and swerved until an officer stopped her at Old Cutler Road and San Servando Avenue.

The arresting officer wrote that Mourning politely asked, “What did I do, sir?” and then winked as she said, “Was going fast, wasn’t I?” According to the police report, Mourning told the officer she had just had dinner with some “amazing friends.”

Mourning smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, and slurred her speech, the officer wrote. She failed a roadside sobriety test and refused an on-scene blood alcohol level test, prompting him to take her into custody.

Mourning, the namesake of North Miami’s Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School, was charged with driving under the influence. She and her husband are often recognized for their charitable contributions to South Florida, including the Honey Shine Mentoring Program Tracy Mourning began in 2002. Alonzo Mourning currently serves as Vice President of Player Programs and Development for the Heat.

2 women were hospitalized with serious injuries when LAPD officers mistook their pickup truck for Dorner’s and opened fire.

The attorney for Maggie Carranza, 47, and her mother, 71-year-old Emma Hernandez, said the women had “no warning” before their truck was riddled with bullets as they delivered Los Angeles Times newspapers around 5:15 a.m. in Torrance, CA.

“There was no warning. There were no orders. No commands. Just gunshots,” attorney Glen Jonas told CBS Los Angeles.

The case of mistaken identities seems to confirm suspicions that police have been given “shoot to kill” orders in their hunt for the LAPD officer.

Dorner (pictured above) is accused of killing a couple over the weekend and opening fire on four officers early Thursday, killing one and critically wounding another.

Cal State Fullerton assistant women’s NCAA college basketball coach Monica Quan (pictured above) and her fiance Keith Lawrence were found shot to death Sunday in their car in a parking garage in Fullerton, Calif. Quan is the daughter of the former LAPD police chief.

The ex-Navy veteran wrote a detailed online posting targeting police officers and others who he blamed for his wrongful termination from the LAPD.

Dorner’s blue pickup truck (pictured above in an image taken from a surveillance video) was found on fire on a mountain near Big Bear, California Thursday. That is where officials from several law enforcement agencies focused their search for Dorner. Heavily armed SWAT teams were seen going door to door searching cabins in a resort area in Big Bear Friday morning.

VH1′s Love and Hip Hop star Mandeecees Harris’ trial for aggravated sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, and child endangerment began yesterday as attorneys on both sides presented their opening statements.

The cliffviewpilot.com reports that Bergen County prosecutors laid out the state’s case against Harris to the jury, claiming that the reality television star manipulated a 15-year-old girl into having sex with him in his home on repeated occasions between 2009-2010.

The prosecution believes Harris coerced the teenager with money, and that the child’s “rough upbringing” made her susceptible to being easily influenced by someone of Harris’s stature.

“An adult like Mendeecees Harris can easily manipulate a child into doing things like performing oral sex – with words, with actions and later, with money,” stated Assistant Prosecutor Demetra Maurice.
Maurice claimed that at that time of the alleged assault, the accuser was living with Harris and his girlfriend, along with her two sons and his child from a previous relationship, in their home in Lodi, New Jersey. The 15 year-old girl was said to often be home alone with Harris and the boys.

The prosecution then stated that Harris began showing the accuser pornography, asking for oral sex, and requesting she tell him sexual stories. Eventually, he started offering her money for sexual favors.

It is alleged that he would even tell the boys in the house to “go talk to your sister, she knows what she has to do” when they would ask for money for themselves.

Harris’s attorney, Brian Neary, later addressed the jury and claimed that the accusations against his client were all made up in order for the young accuser to be able to remain in New Jersey.
“She was going to be sent back down south to live with her father,” said Neary. ”Her claims are so implausible, so unbelievable, as to cast doubt on what she says.”

Neary went on to say that Harris never asked to have sex with the accuser or offered her money. He told the jury he also believed that the girl had problems that were unrelated to Harris, revealing that on the day she reported the alleged relationship she had defied her mother by going to New York to get a piercing.

Neary had hoped to present photographs as evidence in the trial, but before opening statements got underway Judge Liliana DeAvila-Silebi ruled that the pictures were not permissible because they would affect the credibility of the accuser in the eyes of the jury and that they were prohibited under the rape shield law.

Another set of pictures will be ruled on later after it is decided whether the accuser’s mother will testify.

Last week prosecutors offered Harris a plea deal that would have resulted in a 5-year prison sentence. He turned down the offer setting up the ongoing trial. He now faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Harris is also facing drug trafficking charges in an unrelated case in Rochester, New York. Federal prosecutors will pursue that case once the sexual assault trial in New Jersey is complete.

The Rochester newspaper, the Democrat & Chronicle, reports today that Mendeecees Harris was indicted, along with two other men, for drug trafficking this past fall.

Apparently, cops did a deep investigation and Mendeecees has been caught up in a $2.5 mill drug trafficking “situation” in Rochester. And he’s been in jail since January 24th. Here’s the details from the news report:

While court records provide few details about the criminal case against Harris and his co-defendants, Ronald Walker and Tyrus Harris, the indictment shows that authorities have already seized more than $1.5 million from safety deposit boxes connected with the case.

Also seized was nearly $407,000 worth of jewelry and watches, including a $60,000 Rolex and another $35,000 Rolex.

Authorities are also pushing for the forfeiture of properties in Georgia and Baltimore.

Harris surrendered for arrest on the Rochester-area indictment on Jan. 24.

By the way, records confirm the months-old rumor that Mendeecees is indeed facing sexual abuse of a minor (a 15-year-old girl) charges in New Jersey. Once his court hearings for those charges are complete, he will be arraigned on the drug trafficking charges.

Hidaya Pendleton died just blocks from the high school she attended. The teenager was an honor student, a well-liked volleyball player, and majorette.

Witnesses tell CBS 2’s Mike Parker that Pendleton was among a group of 10 to 12 teenagers seeking shelter from the rain under a canopy in a park on the 4500 block of South Oakenwald Avenue around 2:30 p.m., when a gunman jumped a fence, and opened fire on the teens.

Pendleton was shot once in the back. She was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. Another boy was hit in the leg. He was also taken to Comer Children’s Hospital. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

A witness said the teens scattered in different directions when the shots rang out. No one could give a good description of the gunman.

Jennifer West who lives in the neighborhood said gunshots are a rare occurrence on her block.

“We hardly … have any crime. There’s been a few break-ins over the past two years since we’ve been here, but nothing that’s ever caused alarm,” she said.

Another resident called 911 after hearing six gunshots.

“There has to be an end to it. It’s just too much. The children cannot go to school. They’re in fear,” resident Bonita O’Bannion said.

Police said Pendleton had no gang affiliations, but several of the teens she was with were believed to be known gang members.

The police affidavit, as first reported by Washingtonian, tells the all-too-typical tale of a driver getting behind the wheel after having too much to drink. Smoot was stopped at 3:30 a.m. for having no tags on his car, then exhibited signs of inebriation during the traffic stop. He said he “got into it with his girl,” failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody.

Then the story takes an unexpected turn.

Via Washingtonian, which quotes Capitol Police officer Seth Carll:

Smoot told the Capitol Police officer that he’d had one drink, according to the affidavit, and agreed to a field sobriety test. During a series of tests, Smoot demonstrated “many clues of impairment,” including swaying noticeably, Carll said in the affidavit.

[...] “During processing, in the service area, while handcuffed, the [defendant] peed his pants creating a puddle on the floor,” Carll said in the affidavit. “[A police officer] witnessed the urine running down his pant leg and onto the floor. [Smoot] did not express that he had to use the restroom.”
That’s a new one.

There are so many questions unanswered. What did the police officer do after seeing this? Who cleaned it up? Did they give him a change of clothes? Is there no police lingo for “peed his pants”? I’d have figured “micturated upon his person” would sound more official. And was I the only one hoping the story ended with police finding a busted Whizzinator?

Lupe Fiasco has been pretty vocal on his political views, expressing disappointment in Barack Obama’s administration so I’m not sure why it comes to any surprise that when he was booked to perform at an Inauguration event he would be some type of liability.

Essentially the timeline went as followed. Lupe Fiasco was booked to perform at the Hamilton Live in DC for the Inauguration festivities. Some are saying this was a FOX News event, I can’t say for sure. Sources say Lupe Fiasco played 1 anti-war song for 30 minutes, refusing to move on to the next song. That’s when he went on his anti-Obama rant and was eventually removed from the stage by security.

Earth to Lupe – no one, and I mean NO ONE wants to hear you go on an anti-Obama rant at an inauguration party. NO ONE! Secondly, no one, and I do mean NO ONE, wants to hear you run back your music for 30 minutes. The blame has to be placed on whoever booked who they thought the token political black guy was, because they missed the mark on this one. Then you have to blame Lupe for not doing what he was paid to do, perform.

According to the report, Crabtree has cooperated with detectives from the San Francisco Police Department’s Special Victims Unit. Crabtree has not been arrested and the team has confirmed that he accompanied the 49ers on their Friday flight to Atlanta in advance of Sunday afternoon’s NFC Championship Game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Crabtree is expected to play on Sunday and has agreed to make himself available to authorities for further interviews as the investigation into the alleged assault continues.
49ers GM Trent Baalke released the following statement on Friday night:

“We are aware of the allegation against Michael and understand that he has fully cooperated with authorities. The 49ers take such matters very seriously. We will have no further comment at this time as the legal process is ongoing. Additional requests for comment should be directed to Michael’s attorney.”

The alleged attack took place at an unnamed hotel in San Francisco in the early morning hours of Jan. 13, hours after the 49ers’ 45-31 divisional playoffs win over the Green Bay Packers. Crabtree caught nine passes for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns in that win and has emerged as the No. 1 receiver the 49ers expected him to be when they selected Crabtree with the tenth overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft.

The charges against Nagin are the outgrowth of a City Hall corruption investigation that already has resulted in guilty pleas by two former city officials and two businessmen and a prison sentence for a former city vendor.

The federal indictment accuses Nagin of accepting more than $160,000 in bribes and truckloads of free granite for his family business in exchange for promoting the interests of a local businessman who secured millions of dollars in city contract work after the 2005 hurricane. The businessman, Frank Fradella, pleaded guilty in June to bribery conspiracy and securities-fraud charges and has been cooperating with federal authorities.

Nagin, 56, also is charged with accepting at least $60,000 in payoffs from another businessman, Rodney Williams, for his help in securing city contracts for architectural, engineering and management services work. Williams, who was president of Three Fold Consultants LLC, pleaded guilty Dec. 5 to a conspiracy charge.

The indictment also accuses Nagin of getting free private jet and limousine services to New York from an unidentified businessman. Nagin is accused of agreeing to wave tax penalties that the businessman owed to the city on a delinquent tax bill in 2006.

In 2010, Greg Meffert, a former technology official and deputy mayor under Nagin, pleaded guilty to charges he took bribes and kickbacks in exchange for steering city contracts to businessman Mark St. Pierre. Anthony Jones, who served as the city’s chief technology officer in Nagin’s administration, also pleaded guilty to taking payoffs.

Meffert cooperated with the government in its case against St. Pierre, who was convicted in May 2011 of charges that include conspiracy, bribery and money laundering.

Guerrilla Black, born Charles Tony Williamson, was arrested by Manhattan Beach Police, for his role in a credit card operation that was earning him more than $20,000 per month.

According to Manhattan Beach Police, the rapper and five other people were arrested for their roles in the criminal operation, which used stolen information to manufacture phony credit cards.

Seven search warrants were executed throughout Los Angeles County to dismantle the criminal enterprise, which was investigated by the United States Secret Service Department, along with the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

In July, Guerilla Black was arrested and charged with numerous counts of identity theft and fraud, for his role in an illegal credit card manufacturing ring that operated out of Seattle, Washington.

According to police, a number of banks in the United States suffered heavy losses due to the ring, since authorities believe the actual amount each individual was earning was well over the $20,000 per month that has been reported.

Banks in the United States that were targeted included Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Capitol One and American Express, while international financial institutions in England, Switzerland, Nigeria, Mexico, Italy, Canada, Australia, Sweden, France, Norway, Ireland, Russia, Denmark and Germany suffered losses.

Guerrilla Black the others arrested could face new charges for Bank Fraud, Aggravated Identity Theft and Fraud in Connection with Computers, Access Device Fraud, Use of Stolen Credit Card Accounts, Receiving Stolen Property and Conspiracy.

Jury selection began Wednesday in Hackensack for the trial of a hip-hop reality TV star accused of molesting an underage girl in Lodi two years ago.

Mandeecees Harris, a 34-year-old actor on the VH1 reality show “Love and Hip-Hop,” is charged with performing various sexual acts with a 15-year-old girl and inappropriately touching her at his former home in Lodi.

Bergen County prosecutors allege that Harris asked for and received oral sex from the girl and fondled her on various occasions between September 2009 and April 2010. He was arrested later that year and charged with aggravated sexual assault, criminal sexual contact and child endangerment. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.

While details are still emerging, Williams reportedly got held on just over $100,000 bail bond.

The 41-year-old comedian, whose real name is Micah Sierra Williams, had failed to show up for his arraignment in Sacramento on Monday. His bail was set at $100,500. The appearance stems from a pursuit he was involved in with Sacramento police in November. California Highway Patrol officers say Williams failed to stop after he was spotted driving on a three-wheeled motorcycle outside a Sacramento hotel. Officials say Williams nearly hit five people during the chase. (ABC Local)

Despite the pricey amount, Williams has since posted bail and been released.

Katt was released from custody late last night — and on his way out of jail, he explained the situation to TMZ.
